New Orleans Pelicans: Pros and Cons of Jason Kidd: He’s a known commodity.

He’s a Known Name

Pro: Jason Kidd was one of the best point guards of all time and many of today’s players grew up watching him play. He’d have the ear of the players and can relate to them as someone who has been through it.

Con: His reputation precedes him. Kidd has a fair amount of baggage and every player can look up all the same information that I just did. Kidd has a below .500 record, a history of controversy and a whole lot of people who don’t like him. Being known isn’t always a good thing.

Pro: He can recruit free agents. Kidd is friends with a lot of the veteran players and many of them want to play for him. He may be the difference in a guy choosing New Orleans over a different situation. Kidd is well-respected by veteran NBA players and might be a factor in recruiting. LeBron James loves him (more on that later) and Kidd’s presence might make New Orleans a more attractive destination.

Con: Younger players are probably sick of hearing about these old guys. The younger players in the league may not have watched Kidd play and probably don’t care much that he’s a legend. Also, as I said before, Kidd has buttted heads with a lot of people over the years, burned some bridges and there might be free agents who would specifically stay away because of him.
