New Orleans Pelicans: 3 Reasons Not to Trade Lonzo Ball
By Nick Alvarez
The First Reason Why The New Orleans Pelicans Shouldn’t Trade Lonzo Ball
His Ability to Run An Offense
The first reason why the New Orleans Pelicans shouldn’t give up on Lonzo Ball is probably the biggest one, which is his special ability to run an offense.
Today most modern point guards are scorers, some would even say they’re just smaller shooting guards. Not Lonzo Ball. In the modern NBA, Lonzo Ball is a bit of a throwback because he is a pass-first playmaker.
That role is extremely rare to see now and it makes Lonzo Ball valuable because he can impact the game so greatly without scoring. He even showed this trait in Orlando. When Ball’s shot completely fell apart on him, he still did a great job getting his teammates involved, averaging 6.8 assists per game.
It would be dumb for the Pelicans to give up on that talent, especially considering there’s no guarantee they’ll find another franchise point-guard. Look at teams like the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic. All three of those teams have long been searching for a franchise point guard and their offenses have stumbled because they lack one.
Having Lonzo Ball on the New Orleans Pelicans means that the team has a young point guard who can lead through passing and set up the team’s marquee scorers to have even more success in the NBA.
