New Orleans Pelicans: 3 Reasons Not to Trade Lonzo Ball
By Nick Alvarez
The Third Reason Why The New Orleans Pelicans Shouldn’t Trade Lonzo Ball
He Still Has Untapped Potential
The last reason the New Orleans Pelicans shouldn’t give up on Lonzo Ball is that he’s still only 22 years old! No smart organization ever gives up on a player at that age unless they have problems off the court or are being packaged to acquire a superstar.
At only 22 years old there’s still no telling how great Lonzo Ball can be at the height of his powers. He’s shown flashes of putting it all together but what happens when he consistently does it?
I know, Lonzo Ball didn’t play well in the bubble but look at what he did before the season stopped. In his final five games, before the season went to hiatus, Ball was averaging 20.8 points per game along with 7.8 rebounds and 7.8 assists. Those are the numbers of an elite point guard.
Imagine if Lonzo Ball comes back when the next season begins and puts up those numbers again, would Pelicans fans still want to trade him?
Even better, consider the fact that New Orleans Pelicans hold his rights and can extend him for at a reasonable cost for the next 4 to 5 years at that level. Why would any Pelicans fan want to give that up?
The entire point is we haven’t seen the best of Lonzo Ball yet, he’s continually flashing signs that he’s growing into a two-way point guard that is capable of leading the New Orleans Pelicans, don’t let a poor stretch of games in the bubble overshadow that.
