New Orleans Pelicans Coaching Candidate #4- Tyronn Lue, Los Angeles Clippers (Assistant)

Tyronn Lue makes it this far up the list because New Orleans Pelicans vice president David Griffin trusted him to guide a championship team once before so why not again?

Yes, Lue comes with a lot of question marks but if anyone knows how good he is, it would be Griffin. Many people think that just because Lue coached LeBron James that he didn’t do anything for the team but that’s a point that I disagree with.

Lue has an extensive background from his time both as a player and an assistant under Doc Rivers. There’s also something to be said about a coach who can instill a championship mentality into a young team. The Pelicans could be his opportunity to be a head coach again.

New Orleans Pelicans Coaching Candidate #3- Becky Hammon, San Antonio Spurs (Assistant)

This is where things got tough, rounding out the top three candidates for the New Orleans Pelicans. I ultimately decided that Spurs lead assistant Becky Hammon deserves the number three spot.

Hammon is a superb coach who also comes from the Gregg Popovich coaching tree. She’s even believed to be the successor to Popovich when he decides to walk away from the game.

It would be great if the New Orleans Pelicans could steal her before that happens. Hammon shows great intuition from the sidelines and can be a vocal leader and teacher for this young roster as well. With how many years she’s waited already for this opportunity she could just be the best coach on this entire list.
