New Orleans Pelicans Coaching Candidate #2- Kenny Atkinson, Brooklyn Nets (2016-2020)

The New Orleans Pelicans might have to send an edible arrangement to Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets if they’re able to hire Kenny Atkinson. Atkinson who worked closely with Pelicans’ current general manager Trajan Langdon in Brooklyn is excellent in player development and has the schemes to match.

After being an assistant for Mike Budenholzer in Atlanta and being a head coach himself, Atkinson could do great things in the bayou. With a diverse offensive scheme that emphasizes the three-point shot and stern attitude, he’s the total package.

Much like how he took Brooklyn from the NBA’s gutter to the playoffs he could take the Pelicans to championship contention. If it wasn’t for the top option on this list, Atkinson would be the frontrunner.

New Orleans Pelicans Coaching Candidate #1- Darvin Ham, Milwaukee Bucks (Assistant)

This is a name that might surprise people, but the coach who should be leading the pact for the New Orleans Pelicans head coaching spot is Milwaukee Bucks’ assistant Darvin Ham.

Ham is also from the Mike Budenholzer coaching tree and has spent time waiting for his opportunity to be a head coach in the NBA. This Pelicans job should be his.

Much like how every other Budenholzer assistant has gone on to build impressive programs in the NBA, expect Darvin Ham to do more of the same. I could see him being just like Kenny Atkinson but even better thanks to his experience as an NBA player.

Ultimately, Ham should be in the lead because he can come to New Orleans and build a program the right way and potentially even create his own championship culture with the team’s young stars.
