New Orleans Pelicans: Top 3 Options for the 13th Pick in 2020 NBA Draft
New Orleans Pelicans draft pick: Saddiq Bey
#1 Saddiq Bey, Small Forward- Villanova
After watching the hustle, defense and all around effort of Josh Hart, it might not be a bad idea to add more players from Villanova.
Saddiq Bey profiles as a modern 3-and-D wing. He is a long, versatile defender, who can shoot, though his shooting numbers are from a fairly small sample size.
Bey has nice size at 6-foot-8 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, and as he puts on additional strength, should be able to guard at least three positions in the NBA.
Like most players from Villanova, Bey has a high motor, plays with energy and hustle and gets after it on the defensive end both on and off the ball.
Some have questioned Bey’s athleticism and quickness, but he makes up for it with a quick release and the ability to run off screens for shots.
Bey is not a great rebounder for his size and is not going to beat a lot of people off the dribble, but he can knock down open shots, something he’d get plenty of in the Pelicans’ high powered offense.
He also projects as a guy who will take on the other team’s best offensive player, as he has that bulldog mentality and motor the Pelicans currently lack outside of Hart.
The Pelicans need to get tougher, need to get some guys who pride themselves on defense, hustle and playing smart basketball.
All three of these players bring what the Pelicans need, which is defense. The Pels are there offensively, but if they don’t get bigger, stronger and tougher, they are going to get pushed around when the games matter.
The 2020 NBA draft will be a crapshoot, but all three of these players profile as guys who can help right away.
