New Orleans Pelicans: 3 Stretch-Bigs To Target in the 2020 NBA Draft

New Orleans Pelicans Stretch Big Target #3- Vernon Carey Jr., Duke
Yes, another Blue Devil who could potentially join the New Orleans Pelicans, this time it’s Vernon Carey Jr. A big-man who has a little bit of a throwback game, Carey Jr. isn’t getting as much talk as he should be after a fantastic season in Durham.
He wasn’t asked to shoot the three-ball often this season, but when he did it was clear that Vernon Carey Jr. had a clean stroke with virtually no mechanical issues. His inclusion on this list though really comes down to how devasting he could be with Zion Williamson.
Adding Vernon Carey Jr. isn’t just adding a smooth shot, it’s also adding a strong physical post-game to this New Orleans Pelicans lineup as well. An effort rebounder and relentless finisher himself, Carey Jr. could come in and alternate paint touches with Zion Williamson.
This would cause defensive confusion that could see Zion Williamson grow as a shooter in his own right starting from out in the corner.
There’s a lot of options for the New Orleans Pelicans if they want to add a floor-stretcher in this year’s NBA Draft. With the organization on a mission to add complementary pieces to the team’s young nucleus one of these big men could be the key to unlocking more of Zion Williamson’s game.
