2020 NBA Mock Draft: Golden State Warriors

Scouting Report. James Wiseman. 41. Pick Analysis. Center / University of Memphis. Golden State Warriors. 5. player

I’d first like to say that the chances of Golden State actually using this pick are pretty small.

The Warriors already have a stacked roster coming back off injury, want to win titles now and their window is closing quickly, so I definitely think they’ll trade this pick.

After adding Andrew Wiggins in a trade for D’Angelo Russell, the Warriors are already set at four of the five starting positions, assuming Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green are all healthy to start the season.

The Warriors liked Kevon Looney enough to give him an extension, but could ultimately decide that James Wiseman is just too good to pass up.

Wiseman could provide the Warriors with instant upgrades in shot blocking and rim protection and doesn’t need the ball much to be effective.

Wiseman would also provide some depth, even if he comes off the bench as an athletic rim-runner for the fast-paced Warriors.

Wiseman would also give the Warriors plenty of defensive flexibility and could give the Warriors a formidable defense alongside Green and Wiggins.

There will undoubtedly be teams inquiring about trading up and the Warriors may be able to find themselves an asset if they don’t feel Wiseman is good enough to hep them now.

The New Orleans Pelicans could be one of them, especially if they decide someone like Wiseman is the missing piece to go along with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball.
