New Orleans Pelicans’ Draft: Jahmi’us Ramsey’s Weaknesses
As enticing as Jahmi’us Ramsey could be for the New Orleans Pelicans, his game doesn’t come without weaknesses. Luckily for the Pelicans a lot of the flaws in Ramsey’s game are fixable but they still need noting.
Ramsey’s energy is his biggest strength but it also is one of his biggest weaknesses. When watching Jahmi’us Ramsey at Texas Tech there’s a factor to his game where he tends to get overly confident.
This is when Ramsey’s game goes from amazing to haywire. Sometimes when Ramsey gets too confident, he begins to show questionable shot selection. He might take an ill-advised step-back three or maybe he’ll get carried away and try to force a play at the rim.
What makes this weakness even worse is that it shows that Ramsey is an under-developed playmaker. Most smart guards in the NBA will know when to make an easy pass when the defense pressures them, but Ramsey does not.
Improving as a playmaker will be the main thing Ramsey needs to work on in the NBA.
The last thing about Ramsey’s energy is how it affects his defense as well. At Texas Tech Jahmi’us Ramsey was the team’s primary offensive weapon which made him passive on defense at times. This means that Ramsey needs a smaller offensive load or his defense will falter.
