New Orleans Pelicans: Best 13th Picks of all time-Tyler Herro and Donovan Mitchell
2019: Tyler Herro
We don’t have to go back too far to find an impact player at pick number 13. Herro is still just a rookie, but has flashed elite shooting ability and is already a key contributor on the Miami Heat.
He’s averaging 13.5 points per game on 38.9% shooting from long-range.
Herro is just 20-years-old and is already a gifted playmaker and scorer.
Yes, I know there are guys I listed like Jalen Rose who had much better careers than Herro, but I’m basing this on potential.
Herro is also part of the recent history of striking gold at pick 13, as Utah did in 2017.
2017: Donovan Mitchell
As the Detroit Pistons slip into obscurity with Luke Kennard hurt on the bench, they have to wonder how things might have gone if they had just taken Mitchell.
Donovan Mitchell has been a star since day one in the NBA, which has people wondering how Detroit and so many other teams missed out on one of the best players (if not the best) in the 2017 draft.
Mitchell is averaging 24 points per game this season along with 4.3 assists and 4.4 rebounds, numbers that put him among the elite of shooting guards.
Mitchell has shown that he can carry a team, but also that he has MVP potential, especially after dropping 57 on the Nuggets in a playoff game.
