New Orleans Pelicans: The 6 Best Players Taken with the 13th Pick
New Orleans Pelicans: Best 13th Picks of all time-Devin Booker and Zach LaVine
2015: Devin Booker
Devin Booker is another guy who in hindsight should have gone much higher in the 2015 Draft. Not to pick on Detroit, but they passed on Booker as well, taking bust Stanley Johnson.
Booker has been one of the best pure scorers in the league since and has just kept getting better, culminating with this season, where he averaged 26.6 points, 6.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds.
Booker has been accused of being soft, but led his team to an undefeated record in the bubble and was a team that NO ONE wanted to play in the playoffs.
The Suns came up short but it certainly wasn’t because of Booker, who scored 35 points in four of the games. Booker and Mitchell should give the Pelicans hope that there will be talent waiting for them at the 13th pick.
2014: Zach LaVine
The 2014 NBA Draft is one a lot of teams would like to do again, and if they did, Zach LaVine would go much higher.
LaVine has evolved into one of the top scoring guards in the league, averaging 25.5 points, 4.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds a game for the Bulls.
He definitely has some flaws, but he’s a 24-year-old who scores over 25 a game, so LaVine probably deserves more props than he is getting.
If you’re counting, four of the last six drafts have produced talented players at pick 13, so recent history has been kind to the spot.
But if you really want the best 13 picks, you have to go back a few years.
