The New Orleans Pelicans: Trade to get LaMelo Ball

The Trade to Get LaMelo

In most seasons trading up to get the #1 pick in the draft is costly and often not worth it. Unless there is a sure-fire superstar sitting there, the assets necessary to trade for that top pick are too substantial.

This year the draft is unknown, and there is not a consensus star, but it will still cost the Pelicans if they want to get LaMelo.

This trade wouldn’t necessarily make the Pelicans better right away, but would set them up for the future, clear cap space for the 2021 free agent bonanza and somewhat balance their guard-heavy roster:

At first Pelicans’ fans would probably recoil at this trade, as there aren’t any great players coming back, but hear me out, as there are reasons for both teams to do this trade, as crazy as it may seem.
