The New Orleans Pelicans could trade for Pacers’ Myles Turner.

The Blockbuster for Myles Turner

The Pelicans have two areas of weakness heading into the offseason: they need a rim protector and they need some depth at both forward positions.

If the Pelicans could trade from their surplus of guards to balance the roster with more size and defense, then it makes sense for them to do so.

The Indiana Pacers would be a good team to target, as they are about to get swept by Miami in the first round, need an injection of talent and youth and don’t have a draft pick in 2020.

If the Pelicans feel this is a weak draft, they can use the 13th pick to get an asset, more financial flexibility and a more balanced roster with a trade involving Indiana.

This might be a lot to give up for Turner, but it balances the Pels’ roster, adds another shooter around Zion and gives the Pelicans some rim protection.

Some would argue that Hayes could end up being better than Turner and that is possible, but what we know is that Turner blocks over two shots per game and shoots 35.7% from 3-point range for his career, two things the Pelicans need.

McDermott isn’t going to help the defense, but provides some depth and is one of the best shooters in the league.

The question is whether the Pacers would be willing to move on from Turner to add yet another Holiday to their team and get a pick in this draft.
