New Orleans Pelicans: 4 Draft Night Trades For Jrue Holiday
By Nick Alvarez
A blockbuster trade with the Miami Heat might be the best option
This trade right here is the real win-win and the one that the New Orleans Pelicans should be most eager to do on October 16th. This is a move that could put both the New Orleans Pelicans and the Miami Heat into instant contention moving forward. It would go down like this:
Wow! This deal would grab all the headlines if it went down and even though it’s a self-explanatory win-win move, there’s plenty of reasons why both teams would want to make this deal happen.
Why The Pelicans Make This Deal
The New Orleans Pelicans make this deal because it’ll set their whole future going forward. Their rotation would be solidified and they wouldn’t even lose a pick in this year’s draft.
Kendrick Nunn would be the ideal back-up point guard to Lonzo Ball who would be able to come in and shoot it from deep whenever New Orleans would need him to. Tyler Herro would be a player with star potential that the Pelicans can work on while he splits time shooting catch-and-shoot threes with Josh Hart. Then Kelly Olynyk who is viewed as this deals’ throw in for salary purposes could be the needed stretch-big for the Pelicans to add to their rotation.
Just like the deal with Portland as well, David Griffin and the front office will move down in a weak draft and let the best prospect come to him. It’s the perfect Jrue Holiday deal and frankly the only one that exists in the NBA at the moment.
Why The Heat Make This Deal
Miami makes this deal because it gives them a big three of Jrue Holiday, Jimmy Butler, and Bam Adebayo which becomes easily one of the best in the Eastern Conference. Under head coach Erik Spoelstra they could win a championship.
On top of that, the Miami Heat would be able to keep shooter Duncan Robinson and have veterans like Andre Iguodala and Jae Crowder to beef up their roster around the big-three. This would be another masterstroke move in team-building by Pat Riley.
The cherry on top would be than having the chance to move into the lottery as a way to account for all the young prospects they’d be loosing. The Miami Heat might have dreams for the 2021 offseason but this move gives them a chance to win the 2021 title, rather than just win the offseason.
It’s unknown if Jrue Holiday will be traded or not, and I’m sure that to many Pelicans fans that of it even being on the table makes you sick. If the team ends up trading Jrue Holiday though, at least we know there are some great trade packages out there that could be perfect on draft night.
