The New Orleans Pelicans’ next head coach could be on the Clippers staff now.

Sam Cassell-Los Angeles Clippers

There are two coaches currently on the Clippers that are undoubtedly going to get a chance at some point, and it might be with the Pelicans.

Cassell has been a candidate in the past and gotten some interviews, but now seems to be the time for him to finally get a job. He’s been mentored under Doc Rivers, has a lot of responsibility on the staff and has a sharp basketball mind.

We outlined the reasons to hire Cassell and hope he is on the shortlist.

Tyronn Lue-Los Angeles Clippers

The very first name to pop up in the rumor mill was Tyronn Lue and he might just be the favorite to get this job.

Lue and Cassell have similar backgrounds, but unlike Cassell, Lue has already had a head coaching job. There are definitely some pros and cons to hiring a retread, but Lue will definitely get another head coaching job somewhere soon.

The Clippers/Mavericks series has been fantastic so far and I’ve really enjoyed watching the coaches. Both Cassell and Lue are very active on the bench and do a lot of talking, coaching and teaching, which I like.

The Pelicans could do worse than either of these two, and both might have another championship ring on their finger by the end of this season.
