New Orleans Pelicans Possible Free Agents: Courtney Lee

Courtney Lee

Courtney Lee is 34-years-old and coming off an injury, so he definitely won’t be making anywhere near the $12 million he got from Dallas this season.

Lee is likely headed towards a veteran’s minimum deal considering his age and injury history.

What Lee also has a history of is being able to shoot the 3-pointer, which he still can at a high rate. Lee shot 44.7% from long-range in 24 games with Dallas and is 38.8% for his career.

Though no longer the defender he once was, Lee can hold his own, and would give the Pelicans a veteran 3-and-D guy off the bench who is a professional and has been in some wars.

Lee is not likely to get a ton of interest around the league, even in a weak free agent class, so the Pelicans might be able to get him dirt cheap.

He’s not the final piece of the puzzle by any means, but Lee can potentially defend multiple positions, knock down open 3-pointers and be a presence on the Pels’ bench.

Lee has been struck with injuries, but in his last full season he shot over 40% from 3-point range and averaged around 12 points a game. He is also an 85% free throw shooter for his career, something the Pels could use, as they are one of the worst FT shooting teams in the NBA.

He would give the Pels some much-needed depth at small forward and won’t break the bank or disrupt the core.
