New Orleans Pelicans: One Realistic Free Agent Option from Every Team
New Orleans Pelicans: Free Agent Options in the Atlantic Division
Atlantic Division
Toronto Raptors- Chris Boucher
Sorry, the Pels won’t be able to afford Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka or Fred VanVleet, though all three would be perfect additions. Instead, they should focus on power forward Chris Boucher, aka “Swatterboy,” who blocks a shot a game in 13 minutes. He is a lengthy rim protector who can defend multiple positions.
Boston Celtics- Brad Wanamaker
Boston doesn’t really have any free agents, in fact, their entire team seems to be locked up in perpetuity. Brad Wanamaker would fit the veteran backup point guard role. He doesn’t shoot a lot of three’s but he is 37.6% for his career. He’s steady and can run the offense.
Philadelphia 76ers- Alec Burks
Burks has been great for Philly off the bench. He’s getting 15 points a game and shooting 38.5% from long-range. He had a couple of big games in the bubble and could be a consistent veteran scoring option off the Pelicans’ bench. They don’t necessarily need more shooting guards but Burks has size and can get buckets.
Brooklyn Nets- Tyler Johnson
Joe Harris would be the best fit but he will likely be out of the Pels’ range. Tyler Johnson has helped himself since joining the Nets. He was a consistent scoring option off the Nets’ bench and had some big games in the bubble. The lefty can score and shoots around 36% from long-range for his career.
New York Knicks- Damyean Dotson
To be honest, the Knicks have very little that any team would want. Their free agent options aren’t appealing, so Damyean Dotson is the choice. He’d be a deep bench filler, though he has played decently off the Knicks’ bench. He plays around 17 minutes a game and shoots 36.2% from long-range. He does have size at 6-foot-5 and may emerge as a nice role player for someone.
