2020 NBA Mock Draft with Trades: #1-Minnesota Timberwolves

There has been a lot of talk about what the Minnesota Timberwolves will do with this pick, but in the end, they’ll probably just take the best player.

Minnesota has a nice young duo in Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell, so it makes sense to take Anthony Edwards here and continue to build. The Timberwolves are not one player away from being contenders so they need to keep adding talent.

However, they might be feeling pressure to put a winner around Towns, as he is a unique talent and may start to get antsy if they continue to stink.

We proposed that the Pelicans trade up for the first pick, and it does make some sense for both teams. There will certainly be some teams sniffing around to see what Minnesota might want in a trade for the first pick, and if the Wolves can start a bidding war, they might be able to get more than this pick is actually worth.

But in such an unknown draft, and no consensus #1 player, the yield for trading the first pick probably won’t be worth it.

That won’t be the case for the number two pick in the draft.
