2020 NBA Mock Draft with Trades: #7- Detroit Pistons

Scouting Report. Power Forward. Detroit Pistons. player. 7. 64. Pick Analysis. Onyeka Okongwu

If the draft goes like this for the Detroit, Pistons’ fans will not be happy.

Detroit’s bad lottery luck continued and they dropped to the seventh pick. There is little difference between the 7th pick and the 17th pick in this draft, so Detroit is going to have a hard time moving down and picking up an asset, as teams may feel they can get their guy anyway.

With very little talent, Detroit doesn’t have much other teams would want in a trade, and no one is going to take on the Blake Griffin contract until he proves he can play.

Without a whole lot of options, Detroit will just take the best talent available and that is probably Okongwu.

With Drummond gone, Griffin on his last legs and Christian Wood possibly leaving in free agency, Okongwu would give the Pistons another long forward to pair with Sekou Doumbouya in the first stages of their rebuild.

Detroit is probably going to be the worst team in basketball next season, especially if they end up trading Griffin and Derrick Rose, so grabbing a developmental player with a high ceiling is probably the move here.
