The New Orleans Pelicans Most Likely to Win Awards Next Season
New Orleans Pelicans: Could Brandon Ingram make another leap?
Most Valuable Player: Brandon Ingram
Obviously the chances of any Pelican winning MVP are slim, but of their options, Ingram is the most likely.
Yes, Zion is dominant and has a chance to be an All-Time great, but he has to play more than 25 games next season before we get too excited. Zion has all of the talent, but if he doesn’t get his physical health sorted, it won’t matter.
Ingram made a huge jump this season, which is why he took home the MIP award, but does he have another leap in him? We’ve compared Ingram to a 22-year-old Durant and you’d probably be shocked to find out that Ingram is a better 3-point shooter than Durant was at his age.
If Ingram makes another leap this offseason and improves to closer to 30 points per game, while getting better as a playmaker and grabbing more boards, he might end up getting some votes, especially if the Pelicans make a jump as a team.
Ingram would essentially have to put up a 30 point/8 rebound/6 assist stat line and the Pelicans would have to get into the top four seeds in the West for him to even have a chance.
Impossible? No, but extremely unlikely.
Ingram may have an MVP type season in him, but it’s unlikely to come when he is 23.
The New Orleans Pelicans got one of the coveted awards this season and will definitely have a chance at a few more, particularly 6th Man and Most Improved Player.
If they continue to grow, they will have guys up for awards every season and may have a future MVP (or two) on the roster.
