How responsible is Dave Joerger for is own success is the question the New Orleans Pelicans need to ask

For Dave Joerger, the flaws in his resume start with his coaching compared to the talent on his roster. During his time in both Memphis and Sacramento, people have argued that Joerger underperformed so how much credit does he deserve?

In Memphis, Joerger took over a team brimming with veteran talent, and even though he installed smart defensive schemes people argue that the team would’ve been great with any coach. When the Grizzlies fired Dave Joerger, the reasoning was because the team felt like his style turned bland and his offense floundered.

In Sacramento the opposite happened, the Kings played with great pace and reliable shooting from the outside but their defense suffered. Part of that defensive suffering cam directly from Joerger who told his players to leak out for fastbreak opportunities, leaving the Kings susceptible to offensive rebounds.

For the New Orleans Pelicans, they need a head coach who can coach proficiently on both sides of the ball at the same time. It’s unclear if Dave Joerger can do that consistently.

I believe in Dave Joerger. I think he’s an intelligent head coach and someone who players respect. I’d be willing to give him a shot at coaching this Pelicans team because I think he will fit well with the team’s front office and his match with this current roster is very interesting.

He might not be “the guy”  that many New Orleans Pelicans fans are hoping for but he’s different then some of the previous retreads we covered and I would welcome the choice.
