Is the New Orleans Pelicans job the best opening in basketball?
The New Orleans Pelicans parted ways with coach Alvin Gentry not long after the end of the eight-game finale.
There were rumors that he was going to be fired either way, and it looked like the players might have known it, as the Pelicans played with little heart or intensity.

This leaves the Pelicans searching for a head coach in what is going to be the wildest offseason in the history of the NBA.
Not only has the draft and free agency been pushed back, but the start of next season is just around the corner, so teams who add new players or coaches will have little time to get to know each other before they are right back at it in December.
The Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls are also looking for coaches, so the Pels might have some competition for the person they want.
Who that person might be is still unknown, as David Griffin’s team has not leaked any names and there hasn’t been a sniff of a rumor that had any validity.
It’s possible that some teams are waiting for their preferred candidates to be eliminated from the playoffs, which could be the case for guys like Tyronn Lue, Sam Cassell, Adrian Griffin or Wes Unseld Jr.
But will the New Orleans Pelicans have their choice of coaches? Is the Pelicans’ job the best in all of basketball?

The Knicks already grabbed Tom Thibodeau, a good hire considering they have possibly the worst talent, front office and ownership in the NBA, though New York is a pretty great city.
