New Orleans Pelicans: Making A Deal With the Brooklyn Nets
By Nick Alvarez
The Brooklyn Nets can fill some of the New Orleans Pelicans roster holes in a deal for Jrue Holiday
When looking at a potential deal for Jrue Holiday from Brooklyn, I actually like what the Nets can send to the New Orleans Pelicans for Holiday. The Nets organization has a lot of talent they spent time growing and this could be the deal where they finally cash in on their hard work. Luckily for the Pelicans, some of those young players can fill major holes on the team’s roster.
The move I came up with looks like this:
Again for a lot of fans who expect the New Orleans Pelicans to get a blockbuster return for Holiday, that’s just not realistic. This move is something that the New Orleans Pelicans can reasonably expect to receive from Brooklyn. I think it would be a good move too.
For the New Orleans Pelicans, this move nets them a pair of younger wing players who can instantly come in and help this team’s rotation. Caris LeVert has shown flashes of brilliance as recently as this season’s playoffs but he hasn’t been consistent. The New Orleans Pelicans might be able to get something more out of him.
Adding Taurean Prince is the chance to improve on of the team’s biggest holes which a 3-and-D player on the wing. Prince is a career 37 percent shooter from deep and a high effort player. He’d be the perfect complement to Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Most importantly, both of these players are locked in for multiple years on mid-level deals so their addition to the New Orleans Pelicans will give the team locked up rotation players that won’t prevent the team from giving max deals to their young stars.
The Nets’ 2022 first-round selection balances added gives the team another pick to use as ammunition in the future, while New Orleans sends out a future second-round pick they received from Cleveland to even out the value.
This deal isn’t because I don’t value Jrue Holiday. I believe he’s an excellent player and I love his professionalism and defensive prowess. I just don’t think that Holiday can fit the New Orleans Pelicans’ current direction and the team would be best served to flip him to a contending team.
