New Orleans Pelicans: Blockbuster Zion for Giannis trade.

Why the Bucks Would Do it

The Bucks are at risk of losing the best player in the league for nothing if they cannot extend him before the end of next season.

If Giannis enters unrestricted free agency he’ll have his choice of teams in better cities with better personnel than Milwaukee can offer. Sorry, but Khris Middleton is not the second best player on a title team, and Giannis will almost certainly flee for one of those greener pastures.

He’s probably watching Jimmy Butler beating his team and thinking “hmmmm, I’d like to play with someone like that.”

The Bucks cannot count on Giannis re-signing so to me this move would be a no-brainer.

They get a young superstar to build around in Zion Williamson, an established two-way guard in Jrue Holiday, which would allow them to make further trades to restructure their roster around Zion.

They could move on from Eric Bledsoe, build around Zion and make their fans forget that they just traded away the league’s MVP.

The trade would allow the Bucks to stay relevant, especially in the East, where a team built around Zion would probably still make the playoffs.

If you can get a potential superstar for a guy on the last year of his deal, you do it. I think the Bucks pick up the phone and listen carefully to this offer.
