New Orleans Pelicans: 3-Team Trade with Indiana and Brooklyn

Why the Pacers would do it

The Indiana Pacers have a couple of guys in Myles Turner and Victor Oladipo who have been rumored to be on the trading block.

The Pacers have been stuck in neutral, unable to climb out of the 4-5 seed range and may be looking to shake things up by trading a few of their guys while they still have value.

This trade would not only give them an ascending young player to build around in Caris LeVert, but also a lottery pick in 2020, a draft in which they do not currently have a first round pick.

It would also make it possible for them to flip Oladipo for assets. LeVert is cheaper, could be better and would give the Pacers a chance to reset.

If they could flip Oladipo into a nice package of assets, they can rebuild on the fly, stay one of the top teams in the East and have some nice future assets to build with. Giving up Turner and Aaron Holiday for the chance at a quick rebuild around LeVert, the 13th pick and the Oladipo package might be tempting for Indiana, who is at a crossroads as a franchise.

Why the Nets would do it

This would be a bold move by the Nets, but with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant returning from injury, Brooklyn’s window is now.

The Nets will have a lot of scoring, that much is obvious, but Jrue Holiday would give them a perimeter defender that they don’t currently have.

Holiday can take on the other team’s best perimeter player, leaving Kyrie to do his thing on the offensive end. Holiday is no slouch on offense himself and would give the Nets a proven third option.

They would also get a floor spacing big in Myles Turner, who can protect the rim, shoot from long-range and possibly allow them to flip DeAndre Jordan if they could find a taker.

The Nets would be going all-in with this move, as they’d be giving up two young wings in LeVert and Prince, but they like young forward Nicolas Claxton who could be a potential replacement.

If the Nets do this it means they are trying to win a title now, which would be smart considering the injury histories of Durant and Irving.

Would they give up future potential for the chance at a title?
