New Orleans Pelicans: 3-Team Trade that helps the Pels now and in the future.

Why the Pelicans would do it

In my opinion, the only reason to trade Jrue Holiday is if the Pelicans can fill a number of holes, get better now and get future assets.

This won’t be impossible, as Holiday could gather a nice haul in a down free agent year. When you look at how Memphis was able to parlay their Mike Conley trade into a much better, deeper roster, you get some understanding of what New Orleans could potentially do with Holiday.

This trade gives the Pels the backup point guard they need (Dinwiddie) who would be a huge upgrade in that department. They get a big wing in Taurean Prince to play behind Brandon Ingram and offer a much different set of skills.

Jarrett Allen could immediately move into the starting center role for the Pelicans, replacing Derrick Favors, making the Pelicans a lot more athletic and giving Jaxson Hayes another year to learn the game.

They would also get two future draft picks, and though they won’t be lottery picks, the Pels could package them for other players the way Memphis did.

There is a lot to like about this trade now and into the future, especially for the Pelicans.

The Pels are in a great position in that they do not have to trade Holiday. But if they can remake their roster and get better now while grabbing future assets, they have to consider it.
