New Orleans Pelicans: Grant Riller is Worth Consideration

Grant Riller

Riller is one of those guys who doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but may be able to come in and play right away.

He was a four-year senior at the College of Charleston, so he is already 23-years-old, a fact that will almost certainly drop him to the second round.

Riller is a also a tweener, a combo guard stuck somewhere between the point and two, which means he may have a hard time finding a position in the NBA.

He is 6-foot-3 but has some size and strength, somewhat reminiscent of a guy like Fred VanVleet.

What Riller can do is score and rebound. He averaged 21.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists in his senior season. Riller can shoot the 3-pointer, though he doesn’t shoot much volume, averaging 36.2% on 4.2 attempts per game.

Riller isn’t super quick, but he’s smart, tough and can finish through contact, using his strong frame to fend off defenders and find creative ways to score at the rim.

He’s got quick hands on defense and is strong enough to body most guards.

Riller is definitely not an elite athlete, but he is smart, knows how to get buckets and will be a plus-rebounder for a guard.

If the Pelicans are looking for someone in the early second round who might be able to make the roster and actually produce, Riller would be worth consideration.
