New Orleans Pelicans: 3 Intriguing J.J. Redick Trades With Contenders
By Nick Alvarez
The New Orleans Pelicans can net a nice return from the Dallas Mavericks as they surround Luka Doncic with shooters
I already detailed a trade involving Redick and the Mavericks which you can still view, but here’s another one that might work out even better. In this deal, the Mavericks move on from a couple of spare parts to add Redick’s otherworldly shooting stroke to their array of snipers.
For those of you that didn’t read what I wrote before about Redick’s fit with Dallas, I’ll sum it up. The Mavericks are looking to add as many shooters as they can to their efficient spread pick-and-roll offense so J.J. Redick is the perfect target for them.
In our last deal, the Mavericks sent the Pelicans stretch-big Maxi Kleber, but since Kleber is so valuable to the Mavericks offense this deal makes more sense. In this move, the Pelicans receive another player who can be an ideal back-up point guard in Delon Wright.
Wright, was a major addition to the Mavericks last offseason but fell out of the team’s rotation. As someone who works best as an on-ball guard, Wright struggled to play alongside Luka Doncic. In New Orleans, he receives the ideal role of backing up Lonzo Ball and playing on-ball.
Also coming over in this trade is Justin Jackson. Jackson was initially hyped up as a perfect 3-and-D wing coming out of college at North Carolina but is struggling to live up to that billing in the NBA. With the right development, I believe he can reach that ceiling with the Pelicans.
No matter what happens this offseason, J.J. Redick is a target that several contenders have high on their boards. If the New Orleans Pelicans want to get some quality pieces, trading J.J. Redick is a smart way to do so.
