Assessing how Kevin Knox can grow on the New Orleans Pelicans

Why The Pelicans Make This Trade

Oh man, talk about selling low! Begley’s reports also suggest that Leon Rose isn’t high on former 8th overall pick Kevin Knox and will consider trading him. This is why this deal makes the New Orleans Pelicans’ eyes light up.

After selecting Knox with the 8th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Knicks didn’t help develop his game when many viewed him as a project player. That’s why going into his third season, Knox still possesses a streaky jumper and raw offensive game.

That alone is interesting for the Pelicans when we look back to scouting reports saying that Knox is potentially Tobias Harris or Paul George. What interests me about Knox though is his defense.

When fully engaged, Knox is potentially a devastating defender on the wing. He’s strong at the point of attack and flashes the ability to force ball-handlers into poor decisions. He’s an intriguing option to fill the Pelicans void for a rotation wing.

I think that it’s less likely Knox reaches his lofty ceiling offensively but working with the Pelicans staff that improved Lonzo Ball’s jumper, I’d see Knox as the Pelicans own Jae Crowder.

This deal is a simple one, but one that can benefit the New Orleans Pelicans longterm without giving up a valuable asset of their own. That’s why if I’m in the Pelicans front office, I’m getting Leon Rose on the phone ASAP.
