J.J. Redick is the New Orleans Pelicans’ third best trade chip.

You’d think Redick’s combination of age and salary would lower his value, but the Pelicans could definitely get a return if they decided to trade him.

That’s because Redick is still one of the best 3-point shooters on Earth, is a competent team defender, a winner and only has one year left on his deal.

Teams that need shooting and want to win now would line up for Redick, who could be viewed as the final piece for several contenders.

He will make $11 million next season, a steep price for a bench player who is pushing 40, but that contract will be expiring, so there aren’t any long-term obligations.

In fact, his contract would be even more valuable in a trade because it would allow the Pels to match salaries with just about anyone. Redick probably doesn’t have as much value on his own, but could still likely fetch a first round pick and a young player even if he were not part of a package.

Redick is the type of player every team needs, he is a veteran leader and a guy who has won just about everywhere he’s been and he only has one year left on his deal, which is why the 36-year-old sharpshooter still has a lot of value in a potential trade.
