Pelicans Trade Holiday to Denver in Hypothetical: Should They?
New Orleans Pelicans: Would Pels trade Jrue Holiday to Nuggets?
Why the Pelicans Would Do It
The New Orleans Pelicans would have to at least consider this trade, as it gives them players who can help now, as well as some potential for the future.
Harris is a good shooting guard who can defend and shoots 36% from 3-point range for his career. He will be fully battle tested after this season and stepped up in Game 7 against the Clippers, making some big plays and hitting some clutch shots.
Harris is no Holiday, but he’s a proximity, younger, making less money and on a deal that runs the same length as Holiday’s.
Monte Morris is a solid backup who can make plays and hit shots off the bench. He can shoot the 3-pointer and get into the lane for floaters. He’s also making $1.6 million and only has one more year on his deal.
These two guys would bolster the Pelicans’ depth and potentially provide more than Jrue Holiday can give on his own.
The intriguing part of this trade is the possibility for the future. Bol Bol is an interesting fit next to Zion Williamson, as he is a seven-footer who can make plays and shoot a little. Bol Bol could be a playmaking big like Jokic, which would work well with Zion and BI.
The Pels would also net a pick in the 2021 draft, which should be much better and much deeper than this year’s. It would be a late first round pick to be sure, but Denver has shown these picks can be valuable and still get you a contributor.
This package is built on intrigue, as Bol Bol is one of the most mysterious and difficult to predict players in the league. If he ended up becoming special, this trade is a home run, but if he doesn’t? They just traded Holiday for Gary Harris and Monte Morris.
It’s definitely something for the Pels to consider, and they are probably hoping all of these rumors will drive up Holiday’s price and start a bidding war.
