New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Devin Vassell

Drafting Devin Vassell

This is a guy who shows just how polarizing this draft is, as I’ve seen him mocked everywhere to the top-five to 15th. It’s possible that Vassell will still be available when the Pelicans choose at 13, but with few good wing prospects, he is likely to go earlier.

Vassell is a 3-and-D guy who can really shoot it and defend multiple spots. He’d be a versatile wing to put next to or even with Brandon Ingram, as the two have some complementary skills.

Vassell would improve the Pelicans’ depth and balance their roster.

PG: Lonzo Ball

SG: Jrue Holiday/Josh Hart/J.J. Redick

SF: Brandon Ingram/Devin Vassell

PF: Zion Williamson/Nicolo Melli

C: Jaxson Hayes/Free Agent

You now have four young, complementary players to build around, though your interior defense is very suspect. The Pelicans could potentially play small-ball with Zion at the five and Ingram at the four and blow teams off the floor.

This move adds to the young core without giving up anything of much value and your roster is now a little more balanced. There is still work to do but you are getting there.
