Chris Paul’s turbulent stints with the Clippers and Rockets should concern the New Orleans Pelicans

The last thing I wanted to mention about the possibility of adding Chris Paul to the New Orleans Pelicans, is the talk about his leadership qualities. People who follow the NBA are praising Chris Paul as a leader for what he did with the Oklahoma City Thunder this season but look back further.

The last two teams Chris Paul played for were the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets. On both of those teams, significant drama involving Chris Paul led to talented rosters underachieving.

The New Orleans Pelicans are eyeing championship contention and Chris Paul has never led a championship team. Paul’s played on teams that you can argue were the most talented teams in the NBA on any given season and those teams failed.

A big part of those failures is because of chemistry issues. Even if Paul acknowledges those past downfalls, I don’t want to risk adding him to the Pelicans only to see things go south and he negatively affects the development of the team’s younger players.

Chris Paul is a fantastic player, he’ll go down as one of the best point guards to ever touch the ball and defensive pitbull. I hope that soon I’ll see Paul find a team that wants him and they make a run at the title, but unfortunately, I don’t think the New Orleans Pelicans are that team. Adding Chris Paul is a gigantic risk that doesn’t come with a real reward.
