New Orleans Pelicans: Free agent targets from the Detroit Pistons

Langston Galloway

Shooting guard Langston Galloway is someone the Pels are familiar with, as he played part of the 2016-17 season in New Orleans before being jettisoned as part of the Boogie Cousins trade.

Galloway is not the final piece for the Pelicans by any means, but he can provide scoring off the bench. In fact, when Galloway is hot, you will find few players in the NBA who can fill it up as quickly.

The problem is that when he is cold he can’t throw a ball into the ocean. Galloway is one of the streakiest players in the NBA, but he is a good 3-pointer shooter (39.9 percent on five attempts per game) and defender, which is something the Pelicans lack off their bench.

Galloway made $7 million this season, and at age 28, he’s unlikely to get another big deal, so he might be in the Pelicans’ price range.

Getting Galloway would not only provide more bench defense and scoring, but it may allow the Pelicans to flip J.J. Redick for another asset. Galloway himself could eventually be traded for an asset if things aren’t going well for the Pelicans, so he is not a big risk.

As long as Galloway hits near 40 percent from long-range, he will have value. He was one of the bright spots for the Detroit Pistons this season, he is an unrestricted free agent and there is a fit.

Galloway is the type of potential low-cost contributor that the Pelicans need to find in free agency.

Of course, they could also take a risk on a guy who is not as solid but has a much higher ceiling.
