New Orleans Pelicans: Intriguing Head Coach Option on the Boston Celtics
New Orleans Pelicans head coaching search: Scott Morrison’s fit
Morrison’s fit on the Pelicans
Morrison is known as a guy who likes to build relationships with his players off the court. He is definitely a “players” coach who can get his guys to buy into what he is doing.
His father was a long-time college coach and he grew up around the game. His dad was a tough old school guy who liked to yell a lot, so the opposite of the cerebral Brad Stevens.
Morrison says he has combined those two styles into his own, knowing when to blow up and when to pat guys on the back. This demeanor seems perfect for a young team that will need tough love at times, but also wants a coach they like and trust.
Morrison has the intensity of a long-term coach but is young enough to relate to the players.
Morrison focused on player development whilst in the G-League, something that should be a focus of the next Pelicans’ head coach, as the team is so young.
The Boston Celtics have the league’s fourth-best defense and it is an organizational focus, something Morrison could bring to the Pelicans, who were near the bottom of the league in defense.
If the New Orleans Pelicans are looking for a young guy to start their own culture, they might be waiting for assistant coach Scott Morrison, who is young, but already has the experience to guide an NBA team.
