The NBA Draft will have some potential in the 2nd round for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The New Orleans Pelicans have three picks in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft and can use them in a number of ways.

They could try to package the 39th, 42nd and 60th picks to move up and grab someone they like, or they could swing for the fences on potential, grabbing projects who they can stash overseas or in the G-League until they are ready.

This draft is going to be a crapshoot, as teams have not had much time to scout prospects, which could lead to some major talents slipping to the second round.

One such player to look for is Kahlil Whitney from the University of Kentucky, a freshman drop out who will likely go late in the second round if he is drafted at all.

Whitney left Kentucky during his freshman season after not getting the playing time he thought he deserved. This will probably be a red flag to some teams, but should also be viewed as an opportunity, as this guy has big-time talent that just needs to be developed.

The G-League was made for guys like Whitney, who may be future NBA rotation players but definitely don’t have the reps to be there yet.

His numbers aren’t going to impress anyone, and he hasn’t played many games, but Kentucky has produced some of the best players in the NBA, so even being recruited by the Wildcats should mean something to NBA scouts.

There are plenty of reasons for the New Orleans Pelicans to take a chance on Kahlil Whitney.
