New Orleans Pelicans: NBA Draft trade with the Atlanta Hawks

The Big Haul

Atlanta is a team I’ve talked about a lot as a potential trade partner with the Pelicans. In my opinion, if they are going to trade Jrue Holiday, they should to it to a team that has the cap space to absorb his contract without sending loads of money back.

This would allow the Pelicans to clear some cap space that they can then use to grab an impact free agent in the vein of Serge Ibaka.

This would be a risky one for Atlanta, as they’d be giving up some assets for a 30-year-old, but he pairs well with Trae Young and the Hawks still have plenty of young talent.

The Pelicans would get a decent center in Dedmon, a good young shooter in Huerter and a chance to add impact talent with the 6th pick in the draft.

I like a trade like this because it would make the Pelicans deeper and also allow them to make future moves. Could they then trade Redick? Could they move their own 13th pick for another asset?

I detailed the potential haul they could get for Holiday, which could be massive if they clear cap space by trading to a team like Atlanta.
