New Orleans Pelicans: The 2020 NBA Draft’s biggest sleeper
The New Orleans Pelicans have a chance to find the next gem in the NBA Draft.
The New Orleans Pelicans have the 13th, 39th, 42nd and 60th picks in the 2020 NBA Draft, and are hoping to find a gem with one of them.
Every draft has players who drop inexplicably, guys who went unnoticed or fell out of favor due to one particular flaw or another.
Tyrell Terry from Stanford is one such prospect, as he is projected as an elite shooter but teams have backed off because of his size. Well, size shouldn’t be as big a concern, as Terry has apparently added some during the offseason.
Tyrell has gone from a guy with borderline size for the NBA to a guy who has added 20 pounds of muscle and two inches of height, not to mention 15 percent gains in strength and extra inches on his vertical leap.
Tyrell averaged 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals in his one season at Stanford while shooting 40.8 percent from 3-point range on 4.9 attempts per game.
He is a plus defender with active hands who can flat out shoot the ball. Terry is adept at pulling up off the dribble or spot up shooting and will add some scoring punch to someone’s roster.
There is an instant fit with the New Orleans Pelicans, as they need a backup point guard and Terry is the kind of guy who could come off the bench and be an impact scorer.
The Pelicans may like Frank Jackson, who had some nice moments this season, but he is a restricted free agent who may get an offer the Pels are unwilling or unable to match.
Terry would be an upgrade offensively and potentially give the Pelicans more elite shooting around Zion Williamson.
Terry could end up being the draft’s biggest sleeper, a Devin Booker type who falls in the draft but ends up becoming a superstar anyway.
