New Orleans Pelicans: 3 Tyler Herro-like targets in the NBA Draft

Here are three dynamic scorers who could be the next Tyler Herro for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Miami Heat fans were stunned when their team used the 13th pick on a skinny kid named Tyler Herro. Now everyone in the NBA, including the New Orleans Pelicans, is wondering how to find the next one.

He didn’t put up huge numbers in college, but the Heat were smart enough to see that a guy like Herro would likely thrive in an NBA-style offense due to his combination of shooting, ball-handling and playmaking.

Herro has actually been better in the NBA than he was in college and he’s taken his game to a new level in the playoffs, raising his averages to 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists and evolving into one of Miami’s top options on offense.

Herro has handled the ball a lot on offense, running the point and making plays for his teammates and he has also shot the ball well from 3-point range and off the dribble.

He’s emerged as one of the more creative scorers of the playoffs and has shown that it takes more than 3-point shooting to be a great scorer in the NBA.

Herro can take it to the rim and finish with either hand, he’s a surprisingly good rebounder and can hold his own on defense for a rookie who weighs under 200 lbs.

Everyone wants to talk about 3-point shooting but it’s Herro’s ability to penetrate with the dribble and pull up for mid-range jumpers or take it all the way to the hoop that has made him so effective.

Teams have to honor his 3-point shot and when they close out too hard Herro makes them pay with pump fakes or just blows right by them.

If last year’s draft were done again, Herro would probably go third and the Pelicans are hoping they can find the steal in this year’s draft.
