Pelicans: Hypothetical trade of Jrue Holiday to Milwaukee Bucks makes no sense
The New Orleans Pelicans will have suitors for a Jrue Holiday trade, including the Milwaukee Bucks.
The New Orleans Pelicans have a potentially big trade piece in Jrue Holiday and there are a lot of teams that could use him, including the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks will certainly be looking to shake things up after getting beaten in the second round of the playoffs by the underdog Miami Heat. It turns out that the Heat are pretty good, but the Bucks had the best record in the NBA and this was considered a Finals or bust year for them.
The Bucks have the two-time MVP in Giannis Antetokounmpo and an All-Star in Khris Middleton, but it became clear that they lacked the quality depth they needed to get to the Finals.
Miami was the deeper team and had far more contributors than Milwaukee, who struggled to find a consistent third option behind Giannis and Middleton.
With underdog Miami making the Finals, every contender has to feel like they are only one or two moves away from being there next year, which is why the New Orleans Pelicans may be in a unique position to get a big haul for Jrue Holiday.
Trading Holiday is not a must. He started to develop good rapport with Lonzo Ball, is the Pelicans’ best defensive player and they could likely get just as much for him at the deadline. The Pels don’t need to be in a rush, but also don’t want to miss their window for maximum return.
The Pelicans should definitely look for the best available deal if they decide to move Holiday. Is this hypothetical trade to the Bucks the best they can do? Let’s take a look.
