New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: A 2nd round sleeper from Kentucky
New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft prospect: Immanuel Quickley can get buckets
Immanuel Quickley’s Strengths
Immanuel Quickley is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard who averaged 16.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in his sophomore season at Kentucky.
He was a 5-star recruit coming of high school but didn’t do much his Freshman season. With more chances in year two, Quickley improved across the board and led the Wildcats in scoring.
Quickley’s biggest strength is his shooting, as he made 42.8 percent of his 3-point shots on 4.8 attempts per game and also knocked down 92.3 percent of his free throws.
Quickley projects as a bench scorer who could come in and get buckets in short bursts. When he gets hot from behind the arc, he can knock them down, as he did against Texas A&M, hitting 8 of 12 on his way to 30 points.
Quickley is a good rebounder for his size, grabbing 10 in a double/double against Arkansas back in January.
Quickley was also able to get himself to the free-throw line, averaging 5.2 attempts per game and knocking down more than 90 percent of them.
He has good length, with a 6-foot-9 wingspan and developed a nice floater game in the lane. He came to Kentucky to play point guard, so he does have some handles, so Quickley could play some on the ball as well.
He was the SEC Player of the Year and has drawn comparisons to scorers like Lou Williams of the Los Angeles Clippers.
