New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: If the Pelicans can spend a little bit of time on a project then Yam Madar is a great fit

Yam Madar’s fit on the Pelicans

I think Yam Madar could be an ideal back-up point guard for the New Orleans Pelicans future if the team is willing to spend time developing him behind the scenes.

When looking at his strengths, Madar’s best trait is his potential to be an elite defender at the NBA level. After being the 20th ranked defense in the NBA last season, the Pelicans will surely take defensive help from anywhere they can get it.

Madar’s ability to drive to the rim and also draw contact are great signs of potential on the offensive end as well. One of the biggest flaws of the Pelicans offense last season was that they struggled to score at the rim and draw contact.

When it comes to Madar’s weakness, they’re things that the Pelicans’ development staff has done a great job working on in the past. We’ve recently seen the Pelicans rehaul Lonzo Ball’s shot and turn him into a near 40 percent shooter from deep. I wouldn’t doubt that the Pelicans could do the same with Madar’s mechanics.

The other thing that needs to happen for Yam Madar is simple which is having a team that slows the game down for him. With some renewed focus on fundamentals, I think Madar can potentially become the Pelicans version of Patrick Beverly.

A defensive pest with a solid offensive game, that’s a perfect back-up point guard for the New Orleans Pelicans and could be someone worthy of being selected at pick 60.
