Right as the New Orleans Pelicans ar get on the clock, an aggressive executive decides to pay up to move up

Starting this scenario off is the perfect draft night trade that I dreamed up not too long ago between the Boston Celtics and New Orleans Pelicans. Here’s the deal:

In this trade, Danny Ainge quickly gives David Griffin a call when the Pelicans get on the clock after Griffin bluffs Ainge. Scorned by his draft last year where he had three first-round picks and saw Pat Riley take his top prospect one pick ahead of him, Danny Ainge gets bold and offers the Pelicans the 30th pick in the draft to move up one spot to pick 13.

Of course, David Griffin accepts this offer. Here’s a grand opportunity for the Pelicans to get not one but two of their top prospects in this year’s draft. With those picks in hand, Griffin can now work the phones a little himself and gauge the market to see if any players are available that’ll fit the Pelicans’ core moving forward.

Ultimately, Griffin decides to stand pat because he knows that Boston didn’t want the player he’s targeting. Now the Celtics are done, the Pelicans get on the clock again at pick 14.
