New Orleans Pelicans: One trade with every Northwest Division team
New Orleans Pelicans: A trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves
This is one of my favorite teams to trade with, as there is an obvious fit and a chance for the Pelicans to grab LaMelo Ball or whoever they think is the best player with the #1 pick.
Here’s a blockbuster that might get it done:
In this trade, the Timberwolves get an established third star to go along Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell. The Wolves may be in “win now” mode with KAT, who will undoubtedly start to get antsy for greener pastures if his team doesn’t win.
The Wolves would still have the cap space to sign another player and would be an attractive destination. They aren’t giving up any of their core players and still get a pick in the lottery.
The Pelicans would only do this if they really wanted LaMelo or one of the other prospects from this draft, as they are giving up the best player and a lottery pick in this trade.
But they are also picking up a lot of roster depth and future cap flexibility. Spellman is an energetic defender who can guard multiple spots and Johnson and Layman add some depth on the wing.
The big get here would be the #1 pick, as well as the future cap space the Pels would clear to potentially re-sign Lonzo Ball.
