Ty-Shon Alexander is a good fit for the New Orleans Pelicans’ second that lacked punch last season

Ty-Shon Alexander’s Fit on the Pelicans

I mentioned Lou Williams earlier, and I think the way teams have utilized Lou Williams in the NBA is the perfect blueprint for Ty-Shon Alexander if the Pelicans draft him.

For most of his career, Lou Williams has been used as a crafty bench scoring guard in charge of the second unit with the occasional call-up to the starting line-up to provide impact scoring. I’d love to see Alexander play a similar role with the Pelicans.

On the second unit, I could see Alexander ideally operating as a lead ball-handler with guys like J.J. Redick, and Josh Hart on his side as shooting threats. I think with a decent big man to set screens too, Alexander would be perfect as a scoring point-guard which would be an intriguing option behind Lonzo Ball.

At times, I think Alexander could be a fascinating fit playing off-ball in the Pelicans starting line-up too. I think in spot minutes with the top unit as a sixth man, Alexander can do damage with some smart defense and excellent spot-up shooting.

I don’t know about you but to me, that sounds like a perfect role for a player like Alexander and one that the New Orleans Pelicans are missing too. That’s why I believe if the Pelicans want to boost their ability to attack as a balanced roster then they should seriously consider drafting Ty-Shon Alexander in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft.
