New Orleans Pelicans: One trade with every team in the Pacific Division
New Orleans Pelicans: A trade with the Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers are probably the most disappointed team in the NBA heading into the offseason. They had big title hopes that were dashed by the Denver Nuggets, sending the Clippers into a soap opera drama.
They fired long-time coach Doc Rivers and Clippers’ brass did not seem happy with the play of Paul George, one of their big offseason additions. The Clippers probably had the deepest roster in the NBA last season but couldn’t get it done.
They now have a new coach in Tyronn Lue, but would the Clippers want to shake things up even more?
In this trade, the Clippers get a third star to go along with Kahwi Leonard and Paul George by giving up some of their depth.
This trade would leave the Clippers thin in the paint but would give them the best perimeter defense in the NBA… by far. With Leonard, George and Holiday roaming around, you wouldn’t need as much rim protection because no one would be getting there.
The Clippers would likely still have enough cap space to re-sign Montrezl Harrell, so would get better and younger at guard without giving up too much.
The Pelicans get back a veteran defensive guard to replace Holiday who is making half the amount of money. They get a promising young center who instantly improves their defense and pairs well with what they have.
Zubac is also on a value deal, so when Beverley’s contract is up, the Pels would have additional cap space to play with, not to mention the approximately $8 million they would free for the 2020-21 season.
This move would allow the Pelicans to add another impact free agent, improve their depth and fix some of their weaknesses while also freeing up future cap space.
The Clippers would have to give up a lot to get Holiday and it still might not be enough, especially if a team with a better deal comes knocking.
