New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: By selecting James Wiseman, Stan Van Gundy would get another elite talent to mold into greatness
James Wiseman- Memphis
Come on, you had to know it was coming. James Wiseman is one of the best talents in the draft and a largely a mystery too. We only saw him play three games at Memphis, but from what I saw he has all the potential in the world.
Wiseman is athletic, he’s a shot-blocker, and he’s expanding his offensive game. Add him to the New Orleans Pelicans and suddenly they’re the most talented young team in the NBA. They’ll run through teams like bulls and the athletism of Williamson and Wiseman would be nearly impossible to contain.
Giving Wiseman to Stan Van Gundy is essentially giving him his next Dwight Howard. Another near-generational talent who needs a coach to foster his growth and help improve his shortcomings so he can dominate the NBA.
Of course, acquiring Wiseman means the Pelicans will have to trade up for him which will likely cost pick 13 and Jrue Holiday. The organization might no be willing to do that. I’d argue that if Van Gundy is coaching then they should.
Consider the New Orleans Pelicans are trying to become title contenders in a Western Conference that features, Anthony Davis, Nikola Jokic, and Karl-Anthony Towns. The Pelicans will certainly need an elite big to answer them, and James Wiseman under Stan Van Gundy is that answer.
