New Orleans Pelicans: A trade with the Brooklyn Nets for Jrue Holiday

Why the Nets would do it

The Brooklyn Nets have Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant returning to a team that just made the playoffs.

They made a splashy coaching hire in Steve Nash and didn’t do it to because they want to be the 8th seed. The Nets are built to win now and adding Jrue Holiday would help the cause.

He is the perfect defensive guard to pair with Kyrie Irving, as he can defend the other team’s best perimeter player and leave the scoring to Kyrie.

Holiday can also handle some of the primary ball-handling duties and is a pretty good backup plan in case of another Kyrie injury. A Big Three of Kyrie, Durant and Holiday would be the best in the East and make them one of the frontrunners to make the Finals.

The Nets would be giving up a very good player in Caris LeVert, a guy who averaged over 18 points per game this season and really came on in the playoffs.

They’d also be giving up some of their depth and rim protection in Jarrett Allen and taking on some additional salary. Holiday is the oldest player in the trade, so the Nets would be trading away some of their future for the chance to win now.

This move might also prevent them from re-signing Joe Harris, as they’d be taking on around $7 million in extra salary.

The Nets only do this if they think they can open up a title window that lasts for two or three seasons.
