The New Orleans Pelicans can go off the board at pick 60 and select Sam Merrill in the 2020 NBA Draft

As the 2020 NBA Draft creeps upon us, we’ve talked a lot about some of the New Orleans  Pelicans‘ biggest weaknesses that they should address with their selections. I think it’s about time we flip the script then and talk about adding to some of their biggest strengths in the draft.

I know that many fans want to see the Pelicans become a more balanced team, and I do too but it’s quite the trend in the NBA to see organizations double-down on what they do best and try to win that. For the Pelicans, what they do best is score.

By now, we all know that the Pelicans finished last season as a top-5 offense. They excelled at putting points on the board with fast pace and 3 point shooting. It might be low on their list of needs but why not add more of that fast shooting to the roster?

Here’s a name for you guys, Sam Merrill out of Utah State. Not a top prospect by any means, Merrill is a player that the Pelicans can take with the last pick of the NBA draft to up their offense even more.

If you guys are a bit skeptical, I understand. I was skeptical about Merrill too until I started watching some tape and digging deeper into his game. Take a look at what I found and then judge whether or not Merrill deserves some consideration.
