New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Second-round sleeper

Jordan Nwora

Every team in the NBA is looking for a second-round sleeper, as they might be the most valuable players in the NBA.

Think about how Draymond Green (pick 35) or Nikola Jokic (pick 41) changed their respective teams. These are guys who ended up being All-NBA players but cost their teams little in terms of draft capital and rookie salary.

This year’s sleeper might just be Jordan Nwora. When you watch film on this guy, it seems impossible that he will drop to the second round, as he can block shots, run the floor and shoot 3-pointers as you’ll see in the first three highlights on this clip.

The knock on Nwora is that he is already 22-years-old, which some teams view as a red flag. I find this line of thinking ridiculous, as it seems like teams are chasing hope more than talent.

Teams would rather take a chance on a high-ceiling 18-year-old than a guy like Nwora, who already has an NBA frame and should be able to contribute right away.

He’s like a more athletic Danny Green, the prototypical 3-and-D guy who can shoot the 3-pointer and defend multiple spots on the wing.

The New Orleans Pelicans desperately need some depth on the wing, as well as players who have intensity, high motors and can play defense. Nwora could potentially provide all three and is likely to be there when the Pelicans choose with the 39th pick.

The 6-foot-7 junior out of Louisville could be the next second-round pick that teams regret passing on because of his age.

The Pelicans are in a prime position to get a talent that inexplicably falls into their lap. With four picks in the NBA Draft, the next draft sleeper might be on his way to New Orleans.
